Different ways of seeing health: there are a number of different ways to view the same disease. These viewpoints can include cultural, biological, demographic, genetic, etc: what causes heart disease, cardiologist: heart disease is caused by hypertension, family history, and a build-up of arterial plaque (biomedical model: absence of presence of a disease) Biomedical model has a linear progression of disease where disease is manifested early however we do not see this until later in life when symptoms occur (pre-clinical phase and clinical phase) Lifestyle, smoking, high fat diet, low level of physical activity, and high stress levels. Health education, health communication, self-help/mutual aid, and advocacy for health public policies supporting lifestyle choices. Policy change, advocacy, community mobilization, and self-help/mutual aid: health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or in rmity.
