Alcoholism Continued
More women are drinking.
Almost as many as men. There used to be a sex bias on
alcoholism, now not so much according to the data.
80 % of men are casual drinkers, 70 % of women are casual.
For women, alcoholism starts later in life, progresses more quickly.
Receive less support for treatment and recovery.
More likely prescribed mood-altering drugs. Still a sex bias in
regards to prescribed medications to treat alcoholism.
Treatment Programs
Withdrawal symptoms
Convulsions, agitation, depression, seizures, delirum tremors.
Withdrawal is very risky to treat medically.
Family, individual and group therapy.
Other types:
Drug and aversion therapy, classical conditioning. Pill form
therapy, very interesting. **
Even with drug therapy, the relapse rate is about 60%, within the
first 3 months.
Alcholics Anoymous, (AA) clubs. Free support group, often a last
resort. Anyone can come in, sit in and listen. CAthartis is a
powerful and therapeutic, a cornerstone in all AA Clubs.
Tobacco Products
Facts about Tobacco
Number one preventable cause of death.
Kills more than car accidents, murder, suicide, alcohol.
Cigarettes, cigars, pipes and chewing tobacco are all examples of tobacco
products. Smoking is the most popular form.
Nicotine in cigarettes is accompanied by many different
chemicals. While smoking, tar, (resin, sludge that rests in your
system), carbon monoxide (affects respiratory system),
carcinogens.
Oddly, when we think smoking tobacco, you think relaxation. But,
it is a stimulant.
