Losing a child: accelerated heart rate, running around searching, facial expression of fear, thoughts of loss and feeling of fear: behavioural component. See a loved one after a long separation accelerated heart rate, embracing (kissing, smiling) affectionate thoughts: feelings of joy: cognitive component, thoughts or interpretations. Interpretation of the consequences of relevance of stimulus: feelings. Being insulted: accelerated heart rate, yelling, aggressive body stance, angry facial expressions, thoughts of threat, feeling of anger. Sympathetic division responds to challenge (fight or flight) Emotions signal either a physical or cognitive challenge. The amount of arousal that optimum depends on the task. In general, moderate arousal leads to optimum performance. But less for difficult tasks, and more easy tasks. Physiological similarities and difference among particular emotions. Hormone secretions and finger temperature will be slightly different for fear and rage. Hr will increase more for anger, fear and sadness than for disgust.
