Women in medicine and society: majority of [paid and unpaid] providers of hc, receivers of healthcare. Example of unpaid hc provider i. e. daughter taking care of her elderly mother, driving family member to doctor appointment, etc. Sexist naughty nurse stereotype undermines women"s education, skills, and qualifications. Midwives came back into hc system within the last 10 years -- not welcomed per se; skills questioned in comparison to medicalization of birth. Nurse practitioners have a different level of power among different provinces (scopes of practices -- i. e. restrictions put on nurses, doctor has full authority) Nursing isn"t real work because mothering isn"t part of the public medical sphere of the rational world. Current: unpaid care (when helping relatives), senior poverty, sandwich generation. Women also portrayed as mentally unstable -- the psycho .
