From the perspective of conflict theory and of social justice, hierarchical structure is indicative of inequality. Materialist model - health is linked to the provision of basic material goods and services. Neomaterialist model - perceived equality is essential to the overall health of the population. Acknowledges the importance of a basic level of material adequacy but then centers its attention on the significance of the relative distribution of material and social goods in societies.
