Document Summary

Old people will typically gain weight when exercising initially as their muscles will build up quickly initially. Having more muscles will increase basal metabolic weight. The muscles need energy themselves and thus less of what you eat will be stores as fat. Research has shown we often don"t feel full when we are missing some nutrients such as carbs or fats. The more lean muscle you have the higher bmr will be, this may balance out in the end though as you will likely need to eat more to maintain muscle mass. The higher the surface to volume ratio, the higher your bmr will be and loss of heat. Decrease in bmr with age starts in early adulthood. Normal to be in the overweight range as you age. Can be skewed results if high muscle mass. The dexa is the best one in terms of results and accuracy however the waist circumference is the most practical and commonly used method.
