Lecture 16 the provision of mental health services part 3. Within the hospital-based mental health system, both internal and external systemic issues exist. Examples of internal systemic issues: wait times, inter-program transfers/consults, treatment team dynamics. Examples of external systemic issues: access to community supports/resources: challenges re: individuals not meeting mandate or requirements for a program/service, lack of available resources, interprovincial issues re: access to care, to financial aid, transportation, housing, etc. Various forms of community-based mental health treatment exist. Access to such programs may involve wait times, a formal referral process, and/or fee for service. Individuals accessing such services may have manageable mental health symptoms and are likely to be more intrinsically motivated to seek treatment (with some exceptions) As the majority of community-based programs do not have direct access to hospital-based services, it may be challenging for these service providers and their clients people to access such support should their condition worsen.
