Primary causes helicobacter pylori bacteria in stomach is common, use of anti-inflammatory painkillers (i. e nsaids or aspirin; esp when taking long term: alcohol, caffeine, and smoking are linked to peptic ulcers. Treatment of ulcers stop taking aspirin or nsaids that caused ulcers, use two antibiotics to treat bacteria (2x a day for 7 days: antibiotics metronidazole and clarithromycin or amoxicillin and clarithromycin. If no signs of bacteria, treatment aims to reduce acid production to allow ulcer to heal, using ppi or h2 antagonist. Pathophysiology of diarrhea: osmotic diarrhea absorption of water in intestines is dependent on adequate absorption of solutes; excessive of amnts of solutes retained in intestinal lumen = water will not be absorbed resulting with diarrhea. Treat constipation w/o meds to encourage bowel movement drink more water, increase fiber in diet, increase exercise.
