MCG 2101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Rolling-Element Bearing, Ball Bearing, Nylon
Document Summary
Bushing does same thing to counter balance loads. Bushing type of bearing with no rolling elements. If only have radial loads, don"t need bearing for axial loads. Roller bearing better for loads more contact. Ball bearing only have point contact where bearing is inside housing, forces transferred at single point. Bore = inner diameter, where shaft fits through. Outer and inner race to hold rolling elements. Not all bearings have lub and seal, but use seal to avoid contamination of lubricant and keep it. Seal to keep contaminants out inside the bearing. Typically with seal, attach to outer race and maybe spring to push inner seal against inner race. Very hard via quenching bring material to high temp and quench in water to harden. Ball only good for low to medium loads (point contact) Roller has line of contact better. Roller bearings not always cylindrical, this one is tapered.
