Schedule: wednesdays 4pm-7pm in perez 121 (freiman hall) This course is intended as an introduction to the analysis and composition of music. Students are introduced to concepts such as pitch, intervals, rhythm, scales, chords and the keyboard. Classes will consist of a lecture component as well as exercises. To acquire skills to read a simple musical score. To acquire skills to write basic harmonic progressions. Benjamin book, 122 osgoode st, near osgoode and king edward] Pencil, eraser, staff paper and material for note-taking. Reserve materials at the music library (perez 302) Straus, joseph n. elements of music, 3rd ed. All weekly assignments will be posted on virtual campus/blackboard learn. If you have questions about the material you may forward them to the teaching assistants. Evaluation: 30% weekly assignments (10 x 3% each) 40% final exam (tba - during the exam period) Note: the final exam is scheduled by the school of music and cannot be rescheduled.
