Music is a cultural creation: variety of contexts: e. g. graduation ceremony, concert, sports event, meaning around the sound is something that leads to a greater understanding/appreciation of the music. Insider/outsider perspectives: gives a unique understanding of the music. Can complement each other, but may also contrast. Canadians feel a stronger emotional reaction to the canadian anthem (such as at an olympic ceremony) Cultural biases: we all hear things from our own perspective (and the culture we grew up in) Important to be aware of these biases, and be able to make comparisons, but not make judgments (ethnocentrism) or saying o(cid:374)e (cid:272)ulture"s (cid:373)usi(cid:272) is (cid:271)etter/(cid:449)orse tha(cid:374) the other.
