Anatomy of the prostate gland and seminal vesicles. Infants: gastrocolic reflex, age of voluntary control. Benign prostatic hypertrophy: presents in 1 of 10 men at age of 40, dx and prostate size increases with age. The gastrocolic reflex or gastrocolic response is one of a number of physiological reflexes controlling the motility, or peristalsis of the gastrointestinal tract. It involves an increase in motility of the colon in response to stretch in the stomach and byproducts of digestion in the small intestine. Family history: a 1st degree family member who was diagnosed with colon cancer at an early age.
