Personality disorders: personality complex pattern of characteristics that are largely outside a person"s. Cycle through partners rapidly, love/hate very strongly, accuse partners of cheating: impulse control and destructive behaviour pt reacts immediately, needs self- gratification, ***often reason why they enter health care system (ex. Important to follow through with what you say, be transparent: therapeutic communication (ex. Acceptance, gentle confrontation, reflection: examine the problematic area and gain view of situation, rx. Od, suicide attempts), though not common on an inpatient unit: appear more competent than they are, experience emotions strongly that are directed inward (ex. Interventions: primary is dbt, tends to be very effective if pt engages, sleep regular sleep-wake cycles, moderate exercise 3- Interpersonally engaging but actually lack empathy and remore: very manipulative, charming, friendly, easily irritated, aggressive towards others. Intervention refrain from negative criticism, explore achievements: dependent personality disorder submissive pattern, clinging to others.
