Research question - starting point to formulating a good search strategy. Brainstorm the topic to identify ideas and concepts to focus your paper. De ne your research question/thesis so that you can identify the body of literature you need to become conversant with and eventually review. Consult sources (specialized encyclopedias & books) or search online to read background information. Identify key ideas in your question / statement that should be discussed in the resources retrieved. Find occurrences of all key words in the same record / article. Canada, canadian, canadians: don"t limit your search with irrelevant / generic terms. Identifying what type of resource you need: encyclopedias introduce a subject, books describe it in depth, articles describe one small aspect in detail. Identify the broad subject area of your topic (i. e. sociology, psychology, medicine, etc) Determine the type of information source you need (articles, books, news, sources, etc)
