Document Summary

Mobs example rich old grandpa wanting/hoping she would die to get your inheritance. Consequentialism the right thing is something that maximises the good. If you kill the aunt appears that a massive amount of good can happen you are happy- your family is happy hospital etc. But if you don"t you or your family is not happy and no hospital. Consequentialism would say that this is ok as it maximises the amount of good. Ordinary moral thinking would believe this to be wrong. By consequentialist standards you have the right to make these decisions. Consequentialism - is the class of normative ethical theories holding that the consequences of ones conduct are the ultimate basis for any judgement about ones rightness or wrongness of that conduct. From this ^ point of view, a morally right act is one that will produce a good outcome or consequence. If a goal is morally important enough, any method of achieving it is considered acceptable.
