Document Summary

Ethics is a re ection of cartesian philosophy. The only thing that is real is matter according to spinoza making him a materialist atheist. Claims god or the one is the only thing that exists. The highest good is blessedness (as freedom) The stone and the worm are conditions that analogically express the human condition. We only think were free because were too dim witted to know the external causes. Our desires are causally determined by external factors. Descartes god transcends nature, spinoza"s god is in everything. theres no separation between god and the rest of the world because then he would be limited but he is immanent (in nature) God is nature and nature is god also known as pantheism. Mind and matter are just attributes of god to spinoza. Creatures like us have bodies but spinoza would never say god has a body.
