We"ve distinguished between noumena and phenomena: noumena. That which we can have no experience of: we"re trying to apply the categories of understanding to noumenal content. The understanding hasn"t been left behind, its still the primary faculty that we use on noumenal objects in order to make judgements of those. This isn"t something we impose on reason. 164/165: these rules are systematic, these ideas are totalizing, 3 classes of maximum. 1) absolute unity of the thinking subject. Unconditioned unity of the thinking subject. (the soul) 2) absolute unity of the series of all phenomena. (the world) We can talk about god which leads to human freedom. If god is free, that means we have the possibility of the freedom of the human soul. The soul and if it can be saved it must be immortal. These three areas are related because they are all maxima: these 3 highest objects are dependant upon the speculative faculty of reason and nothing else.
