Letters patent: invented the o ce of governor general and provides national authority. Royal prerogative (prerogative powers): residual authority of the crown when the monarchy reigned absolute (comes from 1688 revolution when we got parliamentary government) Remember: they are conventions and exposed to parliamentary restrictions. Royal ascent is when parliament wants to pass a bill. Monarchy will always act on the advice of the government, but they can refuse.
