● Know the importance of defining your terms clearly
● Learn who you are defining your concepts to and effectively explain
the concepts
● Tie these concepts into cause/effect variables
(independent/dependent)
● Name the three different levels of measurement
● Explain scalability to show how your variables will indicate your
correctness

Where does a definition come from? Why is it important to be clear?
Make sure concepts are left for:
- the observer of
- someone looking to replicate
- a subject in
your study to interpret what you mean
Conceptual Definitions:
- Ideas that are represented by the variables in your research
- In order for the study to advance a concept, the variables used must
properly reflect them
Variables to Indicators: Measuring validity
You made a hypothesis, defined your variables, now you must explain what
part of the study will indicate your correctness.
Indicators:
- From variables to findings
- The removal of “abstraction”, a method of “substantiation”
