Psychology is claimed to be a science: science is objective, however, consciousness is subjective. Mental processes cannot be observed you cant see memory or emotion. Black hole analogy this cannot be observed but measurements can be taken and inferences can be made: recent definition of psychology. The study of mental processes and behavior. Behaviour: why do we act (behave) in the way that we do, what is behavior, problems: Behavior can be defined, measured, and observed. In a true experiment, we manipulate or change a variable: this might cause another variable to change. Major divisions of psychology: experimental, clinical, applied. Basic structure of the mind (analogous to the basic elements of chemistry) Is the mind physical or non-physical: functionalism (pragmatism)
