There is a genetic component associated with addiction. Some drugs are more addictive than others (e. g. crack cocaine) Method of administration e. g. injection = higher dose delivered. Younger aged individuals are more susceptible to addiction. Some studies have indicated that men are more likely to become addicted than women. Learning is a change in our behaviour/emotions as a result of experience. Because of our ability to learn, we are adaptable/flexible. Learning can be used for good or evil. There are 3 ways in which we learn (see below) Conditioning: we learn to form associations: can be adaptive; can anticipate that an event is coming and act on it learn to associate 2 events/ 2 stimuli learning that 1 event announce the arrival of another event. Pavlov"s experiment dogs producing psychic secretions in anticipation of food. Food given to dog produces salivation food is the unconditioned stimulus (us: salivation is the unconditioned response (ur, unconditioned means no learning is required.
