Helmholtz, who was studying the reaction time to stimuli. In time, some two hundred students traveled to leipzig to study with wundt. Over the years, nearly 20,000 students attended his lectures on general psychology: three schools of thought: gestalt psychology, behaviorism, and psychoanalysis. In 1892 wundt"s student edward bradford titchener introduced structuralism; complex conscious experiences could be broken down into elemental parts or structures. Structuralism: an early school of psychology that used introspection to explore the structural elements of the human mind. James admitted mary whiton calkins into his graduate seminar but in doing so the other students (all men) dropped out. While the conflicts are revealed in almost every aspect of everyday life, when extreme, they result in psychological disorder. Freud"s framework led to a theory of personality and a distinct form of psychotherapy. Behaviourism: the view that psychology (1) should be an objective science that (2) studies behaviour without reference to mental processes.
