Document Summary

Our brain must have a way to interpret whats going on in the environment made from physical energy such as sound waves, photons of light, ect. We know by determining where the action potential came from such as this is smell because it came from the nose. The receptors in the nose do not respond to other stimuli, only smell receptors. This happens because the brain is topographically mapped for different codes. So it tells you where in the brain is being stimulated such as in the occipital lobe and we know. Absolute threshold: what is the minimal amount of energy you need in order to perceive a stimulus 50% of the time. This is because 100% is way above threshold and 0% is way below threshold. This works with vision when a photon is being shined in the eyes until 50% see and 50% cant see. Signal detection theory: what is your ability to detect correctly or not.
