Selective attention: the focusing of conscious awareness on a particular stimulus (ex: focusing on a voice at a party - cocktail party effect) When sleeping, perceptual window still open (don"t fall out of bed, can sleep to sound of cars, but wake up to baby"s cry, etc. A- circadian rhythm: a biological clock, regular bodily rhythms (ex: temperature, wakefulness, etc. ) that occur on a 24 hour cycle. A recurring sleep stage during which vivid dreams commonly occur. The muscles are relaxed but other body systems are still awake.
