Spearman: used this approach and concluded that as humans, we have different abilities (variable s), but according to him they don"t represent multiple independent intelligences because they all have an underlying common factor: general intelligence (g) Thurstone: believed that there is no g, said that we all have distinct and independent intelligences. Modern researchers have found evidence of g even in his own data. Gardner: staunch opposition of g says that it does not capture the richness and variety of intelligence. His logic: brain damage causes people to lose certain abilities but not others savants prodigies. Savants: below average in most aspects of life but superhuman in specific areas/skills. Prodigies: average on most activities, but superhuman on others.
