Uses a variety of methods to idenify & examine conlicts & repressed impulses: seeks self-insight as therapeuic for emoional/behavioural/relaionship problems. Methods: free associaion, paient verbally reports ongoing stream of though out of sight of therapist. Resistance blocks in free associaion because of anxiety: interpretaion. Analyst"s ideas about conlicts, resistances, impulses & dreams: to promote insight, transference. Paients transfer to the analysts of a patern of interacion from signiicant past relaionship.
