Lecture 11: the collective they-self ontological understanding of our collective ways of being. Ontology = the study of the nature and meaning of being (not physical) Ontological inquiry addresses the meaning of being itself: e. g. , an emotionally infused character of a home, which reflects the attitude of aliveness and connectivity of the family that resides in it. The ontic-ontological interrelationship: the distinction is not to be viewed as a division between two unrelated realms for the roots of an ontological inquiry are essentially ontic. When we start with the ontic (as always), how deep ontologically do we want to go. Human: body social role meaning and significance. Door handles: we subconsciously use them because we"re used to them. Hammers mean nothing without their world of significance which includes other things (boards, nails, etc. ) Money it"s just paper but has so much meaning. Disclosing the world of being as a socially significant world of meaning.
