Prejudice: affects almost everyone"s lives, it can be related to any group we belong to. Visible minorities report experiencing more prejudice. (aswell as people belonging to more than one minority group) Stereotypes may be positive, but still be detrimental. Stereotypes may be based on facts but they are an over generalization. It is possible to have a schema that you do not personally believe. Its formed through socializations, they are social categorize differences. In groups(us) : the groups that an individual identifies with. Out groups(them): any group other than the one we perceive belonging to. Tend to create a group bias which often becomes an "us vs. In group /out group is dynamic : we switch our in group depending on the situation. One consequence is that it can create an out group homogeneity effect: we overestimate the extent to which people in the same group share similarities between each other.
