Document Summary
W e e k 6 : at t i t u d e s. There are several existing definitions of an attitude. An evaluation of various aspects of the social world (baron, 2006) An association in memory between an attitude object and an evaluation (fazio, 1989) Most definitions of an attitude will take into consideration that attitudes are lasting, general evaluations of people, objects, or issues. Attitudes operate like schemas to organize information and guide behaviour toward the attitude object. Most researchers agree that attitudes have 3 components (the abcs of attitudes zanna & remple, 1988: the affective component, the behavioural component, the cognitive component. Although all attitudes contain these three components to some degree, any one attitude can be based more on one component than another. Attitudes also vary in strength; this will affect their accessibility. A woman purchases a lottery car she cannot really afford.
