Not many people see themselves as affected by their society but who you think you are goes beyond your skin. We are social before we are human. - father of psychology, aristotle. We are rst part of a collective - who we are is embedded in the world from which we emerge. We learn through living - emotions and otherwise, this makes us individuals. We are not mere individuals, we are representations of the world in which we emerge. The world of social psychology has been changing - we are always in dialogue with our world. Born of the times of industrial revolution - mechanical ideas / science and technology began to explode. Prior to this, we were looking at humans from a very philosophical way - the human being as a machine. William mcdougall (psychologist) and edward ross (sociologist) - 1908, separately published the rst 2 textbooks in social psychology.
