Document Summary
Nature: we and our behaviours are influenced based on the genes we inherit (biological and genetic). Nurture: we and our behaviours are influenced by environmental factors that affect development. Nature is genetic where nurture is acquired/learned characteristics. Epigenetics: explains how environmental factors affect genes and cause a modification in genetic expression. Differential susceptibility: how particular genes we inherit alter environmental experiences. The lifespan perspective describes human development as being determined by multiple aspects (multicontextual development). Multiple causation (caused by the person, by lifecycle forces, or by biological, psychological and sociological forces) Experiments: experiments are used in order to establish a causal relationship among variables. Dependent variable (value depends on that of the independent variable) Survey: involves collecting information from a small, or large number of people through a type of questionnaire or interview. Validity: people lie and people can also change their minds. Answers can be easily influenced by the wording of the questions.
