Infant body weight triples in the first year of life. All healthy infants develop the same motor skills in the same order (but not necessarily at the same time/age). At 0-4 months old, weight doubles by month 4 (mostly baby fat). By 1 year old, birth weight has tripled. By 2 years old, birth weight triples and babies are 1/5th of their adult height. Sleep time per 24 hours decreases as child age increases (children sleep less as they get older). Approximately half of infants sleep is rem sleep which is characterized by rapid eye movements and frequent dreams. Frontal cortex: this is the front part of the brain which assists in movement.
