PSY 2301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Anandamide, Vasopressin, Neurotransmitter
Document Summary
Note: there are mostly the ones important for behaviour. Nt on receptor-part of channel opens it up for for ions (next slide) eg. na+, k+, ca2+ If it lets in na+ epsp = excitatory input. Binding of the nt causes the channel to change shape. Nt binds then the channel has two ways of acting. Via part of a g protein to active the ion channel. Via 2nd messenger to activate an enzyme (may be changing cell"s metabolism) The second messenger is triggered by part of the g protein. Both : nt triggers activation of what is called a g protein . Action 1: part of the g protein binds to another receptor, allowing it to opens (ions flow) Action 2: part of the g protein binds to an enzyme, activating a second messenger. There are several possible cellular changes that may result (eg dna changes, new channels) Receptors often have several subtypes (these are made up of different subunits)
