Fechner believed that people would perceive the difference of 10 and 11 to be the same 100-110. It makes sense that it should but its not. If it were true, there would be a logarithmic relationship between the intensity of the stimulus and the sensation perceived (slide 58) Fechner"s assumption is right sometimes but it isn"t a law (not universal) Ex. when you"re in the shower and the phone rings. The sound of the phone is masked by all the other sounds of the shower/exhaust etc. Good way to measure sensitivity test and catch trials . Bad way to measure sensitivity asking to say yes . Basic sensitivity (bs) = p(h) p (fa) not a good way to doing it: this way of measuring sensitivity is treating every jump" of sensitivity to be same. 60%-70% on a midterm is fairly easy to do. Negative result = tends to say yes".
