Document Summary
Consciousness: as a process or, as a state. Artificial (cid:498)intelligence(cid:499: a computer can also be programmed to respond (cid:523)to be (cid:498)aware(cid:499)(cid:524) to certain (cid:498)commands(cid:499) Active and passive attention: to become conscious requires additional processing: attentional processing, psychological relevance = active attention, biological relevance = passive attention, the process by which we become conscious of stimulus input that is. Working memory & cortical effort: holding information in working memory requires effort, (cid:498)active(cid:499) attention. Capacity theory: daniel kahneman, we have a limited capacity to carry out cognitive tasks. Controlled & automatic processing: tasks that make large demands on the central resources will require cortical (cid:498)effort(cid:499) and controlled processing, tasks that make minimal demands can be carried out (cid:498)effortlessly(cid:499) using automatic processing. Controlled processing: requires effort; uses processing resources, processing of one task affects performance of another, serial processing: processing of a secondary task cannot begin until the processing of the first task has been completed.
