Prosocial behaviour: any behaviour that has the goal of helping another person. Can be motivate by desire to improve one"s own circumstances (ex. get a reward) Can be motivated by a desire to improve another person"s well-being with no thought to bene t to the self. Evolutionary factors: people help when it will help ensure the survival of their genes. Explains why parents would be willing to sacri ce themselves for their children. People should also be more likely to help those who are likely to reproduce and pass on their genes as opposed to those who are in poor health or are very old. Kinship selection (help behaviour, altruism, and degree of genetic relatedness: we"re more likely to help those we are genetically related to. Reciprocal prosocial behaviour: people help others to increase the odds that they, in turn, will be helped by those others.
