Introduction: unconscious, automatic in uences play a role in almost all psychological processes. Behaviour contagion and conformity some conformity is conscious (watch others and copy), but unconscious like body manner, tone of voice. Emotion regulation hearing certain words affect how you feel. Attitude formation and stereotypes: automatic processes can be conversions of controlled processes (automatization), acquired during development, or innate. You could be judging them based on their face: studies of face perception and outcomes of elections. Present participants with faces of the candidates in state and senate elections. Ask them to choose the more competent person, or evaluate competence on a 9-point scale. In all 3 conditions, participants were more likely to choose the winner of the election. The in uence of bodily sensations, gestures, and other states on cognitive preferences and judgements. The automatic in uence of concrete physical states and experiences on abstract psychological and interpersonal processes.
