Work provides us with: money needed for livelihood, possibility of personal growth, often, a sense of meaning. Lips-wiersma identified four common meanings derived from work: developing and becoming self, union with others, expressing self, serving others. Work is often an important element of our identity and self-efficacy: our occupations are often among the first things mentioned in introductions. It also influences: where we live, what friends we make, what clothes we wear.
