Document Summary
Quantitative research: based on measuring variables to obtain scores that are submitted to stats analysis for summary & interpretation. Qualitative research: based on making observations that are summarized & interpreted in narrative report. Commonly used by social anthropologists in foreign culture to observe patterns of behaviour that help them understand & describe social structure & customs. Distinction between two: numerical scores (quantitative) & narrative report (qualitative) For ex studying depression either through talking to students asking questions or develop a test measure. Though this is not always the case - scores obtained in quantitative occasionally are qualitative (ex pg 159) Research strategy: refers to general approach & goals of research study - selection of research strategy is determined by kind of question you plan to address & kind of answer you hope to obtain. There are 5 research strategies: descriptive research strategy. This hopes to answer questions about current state of individual variables for group of individuals.
