PSY 3103 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, Habituation
Document Summary
Orientating response: hear something and look for where it came. Flexion response: pain or pleasure, (hand on hot surface) Reflex arc: before the message to the brain gets to the brain you react to the stimulus (therefore don"t need the brain to send response in order to act on stimulus) ex. Geese are fixed on cradling an egg (different objects) Therefore anything that remotely looks like an egg the geese would respond to bring the egg back to protection. Distinctive look more at this during the lab. Doesn"t allow for individuals to challenge responses and that is where learning comes in (text book: rats) Rates: elicited behavior is to freeze whereas a learned behavior would be to flee when trouble arises. Elicited behaviors all the animal to respond very quickly without having to think about the last time they got into the same situation.
