Schedules are important during both acquisition and maintenance of behaviour: once a behaviour is learned, it still needs to be reinforced in order to be maintained or else it will extinguish. Can have less reinforcement in the maintenance phase, particularly if you did a good job with secondary reinforcers. *note: where it says reinforcement, it can also apply to punishment. 1 ) r a t i o s c h e d u l e s. A certain number of responses must be emitted for reinforcement to occur. The number of responses required for reinforcement is fixed from the delivery of one reinforcement to the next.
