The study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. They look at social behaviors and notice social patterns (things that are stable over time) They study how each social category is different for each person because it depends on (race, origin, age, gender and sexual orientation) They investigate and challenge commonly held assumptions, the social perceptions people hold. They also look at how others associate to a particular person. Sociology provides us with a better understanding of our world, and the functions of it. The ability to make the connection between what"s happening to you, and to others in the world. How things have become more sociably acceptable and more socially available (i. e. smoking or coffee) Helps see the relationship between personal and public matters (i. e. if only one person in the world was jobless it would be personal, whereas if a plant shuts down and 1000 people are jobless it"s a public matter)
