Learning objectives: to introduce students to the basic tenets of environmental sociology, to provide students with a general introduction to the prof"s orientation to socio- environmental concerns. Industrial revolution: how we generate power, harnessing of steam to power a turbine, creates an abundance of carbon in the atmosphere: before industrial revolution (wind/water/animal/human power) Ipc said that at the end of 2018 we decided that we have until 2030 to bring carbon emissions down: framing suggests the response. Climate change challenges this as we are not immune from the problems. Cannot solve problems on our own only with alignment of other nations: hep: positions the world as we know it as the sole result of human decisions. Everything that happens is due to decisions humans make. Ecological limits need to be considered in all aspects of what we do specifically to all aspects of sociology.
