Research Designs 10/4/2013 6:12:00 AM Sample Sizes:   Research Designs  framework for the collection of Analysis of Data  What is an Experiment?  A scientific procedure to determine something (i.e. event, hypothesis, facts)  Experiment - Control - Manipulation - Random sample Quasi Experiment (“almost” experiment) - Control - Manipulation - Non-random sample: whenever trying to generalize the result, be careful because cannot assure the reader you’re representative of what is being studied Field – Experiment (“mixing” two designs together to get a better view of the experiment) - Random Sampling - Control - No manipulation Experiment Designs:  Post- test only (limited): 60%  Pre-Post test: 50% - concludes that there is an impact since voting went up by 10% (generalization) -  Pre-Post test w/ control group  Doubles the amount of experiments  Pre-post test and control group should be the same =50%  No manipulation, so post test = 50%  Salomon design Longitudinal Design: a research in which data are collected on a sample on at least 2 occasions (BOF).  De
