Document Summary
09/28/16 (6) traditional media and contemporary society (cont. ) When we are exposed to information repeatedly over time, it becomes part of our general stock of knowledge about things that we know. Once it enters our stock of knowledge, we are no longer able to name the source from where we received this information. Yet, we use this knowledge like it is our own and many of our opinions are based off of it. Habermas sought to link media with modern society through a concept called the public sphere". This is a neutral zone where access to information affecting the public good is widely available, discussions if free of domination, and all those participating do so on an equal basis. It is a place where the public get what they need in order to act on the democratic aspect of their society (e. g. voting).
