Youth culture: shared interests, behaviours, beliefs, for every generation there tends to be a youth culture. Ex: media - big part of youth culture. Ex: language - slang: shared, very wide spread and is distinct from adulthood and childhood. They"ll consume anything you put in front of them. Teenagers are at risk for all these influences. Ex: youtube video - josie and the pussycats: self-regulation. Convince individuals to regulate behaviour to benefit those in power. No physical consequences, but there are social consequences. Drinking - norms associated with amount of consumption. Clothing - too old to wear certain clothes (revealing clothes) Seriousness of the relationship - the older you are the more serious (long-term/short- term) Skipper and nass (1968) identified four main functions of dating: gaining status. Social status - how you are perceived by others: socialization. Through dating you"ll learn social behaviours: recreation. Can be fun to explore things with somebody else.
