Term established in 1796 (during french revolution) This term embraced the positive notion of a science of ideas. Also attempted to seek to improve the living conditions of man. Wanted a rational scientific society which liberated the mind of humans from prejudice. Therefore, they started to use the term as an emotional hard-cry so that ideology would take on a negative connotation.
