The 1101: intro to the practice of theatre - backstage. Challenging task of bringing together the many complex pieces of a production into a whole: script, actors, set, costuming, lighting, sound, music. Work is often based on a detailed study and analysis of the script to be produced. Many careful readings of scrip to help director develop individual vision of the playwrights intentions, which will form the core of his or her interpretation (message, theme driving the director) This sense of what they play is really about will shape a director"s thinking about every other aspect of the production. To create a director"s concept, the director usually explains his initial thoughts about: Mood and atmosphere (that will best communicate the themes of the play) Overall look or feel (that will best communicate the themes of the play romeo & juliet the comedy, characters were dressed as clowns) General observations about character (that will best communicate the themes of the play)
