Post modernism (late 1970"s-2000) - philosophical/theoretical after modernism. Late capitalism/ art culture and consumption/ gender and identity. Up until this point the history of art had no females nor people of colour. Contemporary art (present day) - unknown/local and global interactions/ One of the biggest shifts in art history is that there is a lack in understanding art but rather look at the theory, thus making it subjective and evaluative. No one was thinking about the contexts that go with art. However, there are still some aspects that we hold onto (e. g. the difference between a painting and a print) Heinrich wolfflin - looked at the disjunctions between different eras of art and how that adds to the work of art. Marxist aft history (1970s) - the study of art in relation to social history. Helps us think of art as radical and powerful. Brings up that art can change society in a way.
