Limited position of valued status so not everyone of sufficient talent can actually achieve them. Social structure with hierarchy in which relatively perm social stations are maintained. People have unequal access to life sustaining resources. Gender & sex still play a role in the division of labour. Tend to have economies that redistribute goods & services t/o the community. Those that do the redistribution keep some portion for themselves. This creates one r more ranked social tiers. Usually skewed to higher ranks in order to keep hierarchy.
